Pricing

You should know what legal costs before the month starts, not three weeks after it ends when the invoice finally shows up.

Pricing is agreed in writing before any work starts, so you know the number up front and no invoice lands bigger than you expected. If something falls outside the scope we agreed on, you get a quote before it begins and you decide. Change the scope or end the engagement with 30 days' notice. Whatever we built with you stays yours: the playbooks, the templates, the legal record.

Custom

Set on the first call

Multi-entity, regulated, transaction-heavy, or growing past what the model covers. We'll design something that fits, or we'll tell you it's time to hire in-house.

Counsel and Embedded both sit inside the $60K to $180K a year range shown in the table below. Where you land gets settled on the first call and written into the engagement letter before any work begins.

The arithmetic

 What it means
Full-time general counsel$330K to $470K fully loaded, plus a recruiter fee of 20% to 30%. Fixed either way. Right once volume is sustained, commonly around $5M to $10M ARR.
Hourly outside firmsUnpredictable by design, and priced for questions you already know to ask. Right for episodic work with clear edges.
Outside general counselTypically $60K to $180K a year, agreed up front. Scales with volume. Right for the two-ish years in between.

Run the arithmetic yourself; we're not selling you savings. If your volume justifies the seat, hire the seat, and we'll help you do it.

Questions

What counts as "outside scope"?

Bounded projects with a clear start and a clear end: a financing, an acquisition, a certification push, managing a piece of litigation. Each one gets quoted in writing before work begins, so you approve the number before anyone starts. The test we use is simple. If it would surprise you on an invoice, it should have been quoted first.

What about the other lawyers you bring in?

When a matter needs someone with a narrower practice, say a patent attorney, they either bill you directly or pass through to you at cost. You pick which, and we agree it upfront rather than after the bill arrives. We don't mark up another lawyer's time.

Do we still need our deal firm?

For financings, probably yes, and that's healthy rather than wasteful. We work the company side while they run the deal, and those are genuinely different jobs. Plenty of clients keep the firm that handled their formation for exactly the work it's good at.

What if our volume is genuinely low?

Then a retainer is the wrong purchase, and we'll tell you that on the call instead of after you've signed. A bounded assessment plus a set of templates your team can run without us may be all you need this year.

What if our volume changes mid-year?

We track your actual volume against what we scoped, and if the gap is real we raise it with you in writing before the next month starts. One busy quarter doesn't move the number. A sustained increase moves the tier, and only after you've agreed to it.

What happens to the price at renewal?

We review it with you in advance, in writing, against the volume you actually used. There are no automatic escalators buried in the engagement letter.

Fifteen minutes. No pitch.

You talk, we diagnose. You leave with the two or three exposures worth addressing first, along with a straight answer on whether you need counsel now, including "not yet."
